Default heat probe

I have a thermaltake fan that has a heat probe that tells the fan how fast to spin. I have it between the heatsink and cpu but the fan is always running on high....how am I suppose to install it. I think the directions may have menat to put it between the cpu and the socket just have the pin go through it where they need to?

DONT put the sensor between the cpu and the hsf because you're breaching the seal between the two, it's potentially dangerous for your cpu and will be making your hsf work harder as it is.

I always put my cpu sensors on the back of the motherboard directly under the cpu socket.

okay so should I just thermal tape it to the back of the motherboard? because the fan is running on high all the time and it is very loud at high

I'm a tad confused.

Is this fan the one that sits on your cpu? or is it a case fan?

Either way the best bet it to connect the fan to one of the 3pin headers on the motherboard so it can control fan speed.

it is a case fan. I have it hooked up on the 3 pin but this fan has 3 options. you can leave the jumper on and have it run on high all the time. hook up a controller which I cant do because I dont have a empty PCI slot or hook the sensor to the cpu so it can set itself depending on temps. what kinds of tape would be okay to use to tape it to the back. that seems like a good place to put it. I also have a cpu cooler

Dont use typical 'sello' tape as the heat from the mobo will work wonders on the adhesive.

You need thermal tape.
