Default Help!

I'm in the process of building a new computer, specifically designed for gaming. Now, I need a processor that is between $100 - $200. I'm pretty new to this kind of stuff, but I was going for the Intel Quad Q6600, which is just $199. Now to be honest I want something a little more cheaper, and I was wondering whether you could give me some advice.

Thanks for the help

If your still wanting a quad, however for gaming, you don't rearly need a quad, unless you will be vid rendering etc as well, that is the cheapest proccesor around. If only gaming go for something from here will probably be your best bet. If you need more advice on exactly which one, come back.

I would go for the E8400

Better for gaming and you can easily overclock to greater speeds if you need to.

Thanks for the help guys. But now I just need a motherboard. I'm really not sure what to get. It'll be paired with the E8400 (thank you). Max I want to spend is $120. Can't really find anything cheap AND good, because when I read the reviews, it convinces me not to buy it.

Probably any of these the P35 chipset is very good, and at a very good price, I don't know what else you will need, so either you will have to post what else you need here, or look through that list, to find which one has all that you need.

Frankly that mobo is a very bad idea.

Micro-ATX which is only really useful for a media centre pc (and heat will be more a problem with the limited size of the pcb).

And it's a via chipset. Seriously, stay away from VIA for a gaming build.

Have a nosey at the Asus P5-E. Superb board, cheap enough and it's the p35 chipset.

Yea, Like Alex said Micro-ATX is not a good idea, unless space is a real issue, and power isn't. Also with only having 2 RAM slots, they will most likly only be single channel, meaning it will be slower than normal ATX boards which will operate Duel-Channel.
