That error message suggest's that it is either driver related, hardware related, virus related or XP itself

Nice.:(

Okay, lets start at the beginning.

Are you still able to replace the old motherboard with the new one? and put your system components back the setup they were prior to upgrade.

If so, do the re-build and let us know how you go.

I suggest this as we're getting nowhere (not your fault) and we need to start where it went wrong to narrow things down.

We are gonna format this disk if it's ok with you yes?
If not say so.
Go to www.bootdisk.com and get a 98SE boot disk.
Set your bios to boot from the floppy but before you do go here and read this very carefully.
Fdisk.

I'd prefer to look at hardware first Wolfie, it's easier to reverse what you've done.

If the format doesn't work then we're a tad stuck.

Plus it only occurred during an installation of some hardware, very coincidental.

Thoughts?

ok guys computer is fixed

thanks to all for advice, but here is what i did.

Couldnt get it to boot from CD so

put the motherboard CD in, started it up, and made a RAID driver FLOPPY DISK! (yes old school baby)

started up with the XP CD, pressed F6 to install 3rd Party Raid, installed the drivers off the floppy disk, went to windows repair (the second option to repair not the first) and let it repair.

It started back up, finalised installation, and bobs your aunty.

i was into my computer with all my files intact.

thanks for all the advice and help!
