Hi everybody,

I've just started seriously looking at a new PC again. I think I will go for an ASUS Striker Extreme 680i mobo and a Intel Q6600 2.4GHz processor.

I'd like to know what you think the most suitable RAM would be, thanks.

P.S. My personal favorite brand is Kingston, but I'm completely open to others.

My personal favourite is A-Data.

Close second would be Corsair.

I do question your choice of cpu though. I'm currently benching my E8400 against the missus'es (eh?) Q6600, both at stock speeds. The 'E' only gets ousted in dedicated multi-threaded benchmarking. Put simply, if gaming go for the 'E' if, as an example, you're going to be doing a lot of video-editing, stick with a quad, just not necessarily the Q6600.

Superb choice of motherboard though.

I am into gaming, but I don't really use the computer much for that, more of a console fan.
I'll stick with the quad, that was what me and a couple of mates came up with so...

Anyway, thanks for the info.

I'm going for the Q9450 Quad it's a little more expansive and higher clock speeds, but the Q9300 has the same clock speed as the Q6600, but is a 45nm core so will run cooler and more energy efficient, I also think it may be a little cheaper.

From what I hear the 45nm quads are junk and not just for OCing. I would just go E8200 tbh..but like Alex said, OP's call.
