It supports a maximan of 2gigs(1per slot) of DDR1
Any DDR 184pin of PC3200 will do

Depending on what you have in it already, probably 512mb as that is what they come with standard
It would be best for you to buy a 2gig kit, 1x1

Lol I just did a search for the part number (VGC-V2) in google and this thread came up as number 1 on the list Is that a Laptop or a desktop? because I searched on the net and searches were saying notebook, but if I go on the sony "accessory selector" the picture looks like a desktop

2GB would be best but the 1GB chips are pricey. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/66404

As it isn't dual channel, and then doesn't matter if matched or not, then I would say an extra 1GB will set you flying!

Thank all,

Bought 2 x 1Gb memory from crucial, good deal only £42.00 including delivery and tax.

Does anyone know how to open this thing up to put the memory in ??

Any help would be much appreciated.

is it a laptop or PC? If it's a laptop, there will be a small door on the underneath of the computer, it will require unscrewing (make sure the computer is turned off) and you will see the current RAM stick, remove that and insert your new sticks. If it's a PC, there will probably be screws at the back of the case, unscrew these (only the ones that hold the outside on, it should be reasonably obvious which they are) and slide the side to towards the back of the case, it should unclip and you will see the motherboard, again, remove your current stick, and insert your new ones.

Cheers ! sorted it

There is a plastic slide panel on the back of the pc, this needs to be eased off in an upward direction. Once this is off, there is a silver plate on the back right hand side - two screws, remove them and there it is ..... access to the board that holds the memory.
2 gb now installed and the machine works great.

Why it is recommended that this procedure should be carried out by a Sony approved service centre only is beyond me !
With the kind help off this forum, reckon I may try brain surgery next. Many thanks to all.

Baz.

Glad you got it, it sounds like a very unusual type of case not sure I've met a case that has a plastic slide panel on the back to be removed to get to RAM

The slider on the back gives access to the RJ45 and USB ports. Once this is in the up position it can be eased passed the stop guide. This gives then a clear view of the rear panel. The access to the memory is via a silver plate about 5 inches tall by 2 inches wide - 2 screws hold it in place. This is to the right hand side of the machine as you look at the back panel.

With all your help guys, this was childplay !
