uh, I'm pretty sure you can't upgrade a laptop cpu. or anything that isn't memory for the most part

It will most probably be your fans trying to cool the excess heat from your components that have been forced to run faster therefore getting hotter, as a result of upgrading to vista.

Well these are the specs for your Laptop :

CPU AMD Sempron Mobile 2800+
Chipset ATI Radeon Xpress 200
Memory 512MB 200pin DDR-333 SODIMM (2 memory slots. Max 2GB)
Hard Drive 60GB
CD Drive DVD±RW
Screen 15.4" widescreen TFT (native resolution 1280x800)
Video Card ATI Radeon Xpress 200M IGP (128mb) **

....... and without being harsh, this is rather an old and outdated slug ... certainly not powerful enough to run Vista.
You could try adding RAM, this may help a bit, but a Sempron CPU is a slow old dog and the vdeo card will not be up to the job, if you want to see all the features in Vista.

The noise you are hearing is probably your HDD working overtime, creating/accessing pagefile entries because there is not enough RAM. I imagine it is dead slow as well.

My advice would be ... go back to XP or, if you must have Vista, consider a new Laptop

You don't say what version of Vista you've installed.

If it's premium, turn off the 'Aero' feature thats resident as it's a resource hog.

The chassis of your laptop can accept upto 2x512mb sodimms of ram, so doubling your ram will help.

Vista basic requires around 512mb of ram to run smoothly on a typical install. Premium (with Aero running) requires around 768mb of ram to run smoothly.

And this is just for the os, nevermind when you've other applications running.
