Samwar, we are trying to help....

You can potentially upgrade the cpu, but you'll need to look at the tdp of your current cpu and the wattage required to run it.

Then look at the tdp and wattage needed for the new cpu you choose to see if the chassis can provide the power needed and have the cooling in place to get rid of the waste heat.

It's not simply a case of swapping the cpu out, this isn't a desktop.

Have you tried the other advice first?

To sum up ...... Vista requirers a reasonably high spec to run
Your Laptop does not have this
You could replace your existing RAM with 2 x 512mb sticks, which will definitely help
Your system is better suited to XP
Changing your CPU is not a simple swap out

Also you have to consider whether you might be throwing good money after bad, with an old Laptop and whether your money will be better spent, towards a new machine.
