Usually my CPU's temperature is at 60-70 C but I was on a ageia physX demo (software version) and it was peaking at 94 C (201 F)!! Is that normal? By the way I have a P4 HT 516

That does seem rather high, migth be an idea to check the heatsink/fan for excessive dust buildup, as that is a key factor for higher than average cpu temps.

Too hot.
Make sure HSF is seated properly, working properly and free from dust.
Now I know why you are called "Blazing".

Is 60-70 too high for a quad core?

Q6600 its being very hot today and not done much or been on computer long 37 minutes to be exact. Its at the high end of the 60's and going to 71%. Got to 75% which is the max it should go then it gives a warning. (the abit uGuru software that is)

Monitor temps when CPU is under 100% load.
I use Orthos to stress the CPU.
It is designed to stress a Dual Core CPU so I guess running 2 instances of the program will stress 4 on a Quad?
Dont quote me on that though.lol

Edit:
After a little research.
Quote:
You can't run 4 orthos windows by opening up the same copy of it 4 times. You have to run 4 different copies of it. So make 4 copies of the program, name them orthos1, orthos2, orthos3, orthos4, or put all 4 in separate folders. Whatever you like. And then each one of them will take up 1 core.

With a good hsf and good t.i.m I'd expect those temps at peak, well maybe not expect, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I am surprised you're getting them at idle.

What's your ambients? And what's your bios temps?

How do I find these out.

Right for some reason its getting maxed out and im not even doing anything on here. Just turned it on and its getting so hot.

Im using standard CPU heatsink that came with it. It has alway been a bit high but never like this. Lowest has been about 50.

To access the BIOS temps, press Del or F1 or whatever they key is to enter the BIOS., should be under a title "PC Health Status" or similar. Ambient temps are like room temp etc (i think).
