| Hi guys, Got a Q6600 in my rig not overclocked. Usually it idles around 30 and 35 under loads. But at the moment it is at 43 and it's not under load at all! Could the reason be lack of exhaust at the back? The comp is under my desk which unfortunately has a solid wooden back so ventilation is limited but there is nowhere else for it to go! I think it doesn't help the fact my room is hot. This is caused by the computer, which in turn heats up the room more, which makes the computer run hotter - it's a viscous circle! Any ideas? Thanks Tom |

| 43 is fine. What's it under load?

| If your that worried, just get some better air circulation in the case through some more case fans or a get a better cpu heatsink/fan. |

| Usually it is around 39 under load! Just wondered why it had suddenly rocketed! It's all stock HSF and paste. |

| Maybe an increase in background processes running? Also you could try cleaning the heatsink/fan and maybe re-apply the thermal paste with arctic silver? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=AC-000-AC

| I have a Q6600 GO too. Currently running at 3.00ghz, I find this is quick enough for me most of the time and using orthos for around 12 hours, ( all 4 cores engaged ) it rarely exceeds 50c. I really wouldnt worry, am I right in thinking that the Q6600 can run way hotter? Am I correct in saying that the shut down threshold is 100c? If I push mine to say 3.5 it can make 75-80 using orthos but that doesn't even phase me. However, your question was to why it should be so different now. Check your thermal paste, agreed. Artic silver is the 1. Are u using stock cooling? I use a Tuniq 120 tower and it will keep the Q6600 cool enough for anything up to around 3.7. Cheap as chips too. |
