Default How much RAM should I get, and either 512MB or 1 GB

Right now I have 2 X 512MB of RAM and I was wondering if it would be better to get another set of 2 X 512MB for a total of 2GB, or a set of 2 X 1GB or RAM for a total of 3GB. Would the 4 512Mb work better overall than 2 512MB and 2 1GB or would it be the other way around? Right now the RAM I have is:

Memory Slot 1/4
Installed Enabled Size 512 MB
Form Factor DIMM
Frequency 400.0 MHz
Slot A0 [Bank0/1]
Manufacturer None
Type Details -
Enabled Size 512 MB
Total Bit Width 64 b
Data Bit Width 64 b

Memory Slot 2/4
Installed Enabled Size 0 B
Form Factor DIMM
Frequency 0.0 Hz
Slot A1 [Bank2/3]
Manufacturer None
Type Details -
Enabled Size 0 B
Total Bit Width 64 b
Data Bit Width 64 b

Memory Slot 3/4
Installed Enabled Size 512 MB
Form Factor DIMM
Frequency 400.0 MHz
Slot A2 [Bank4/5]
Manufacturer None
Type Details -
Enabled Size 512 MB
Total Bit Width 64 b
Data Bit Width 64 b

Memory Slot 4/4
Installed Enabled Size 0 B
Form Factor DIMM
Frequency 0.0 Hz
Slot A3 [Bank6/7]
Manufacturer None
Type Details -
Enabled Size 0 B
Total Bit Width 64 b
Data Bit Width 64 b

Any help would be great.
THX

Neither will give you much more performance. If you're going to go upgrade, just get another two 512s.
