well if you bought the right memory you just open it and put into an empty slot.

If you have bought RAM , then put it into the RAM slots of your Mother board and windows XP will detect it automatically. No need to install it.

But if u have a new hard drive then you have to fix it with the power cable coming from the SMPS and the cable connect to your motherboard and adjust the settings of the jumper for making master slave drives.

Windows XP will detect it automatically in both cases .No need to install it.:)

If you mean fitting it then it will only fit one way. There's a tab within the ram slots thats slightly offset lengthways. You'll see a slot in the ram DIMM that will match.

**Only hold the ram by its edges though**

If you're after dual-channel usage, then you'll see that the (I'm assuming 4) ram slots will be colour coded, 2 green and 2 blue for example.

As layouts differ on motherboards you may see blue-blue-green-green or blue-green-blue-green.

Just fit the DIMM's to either the blue or the green slots.

There is no installation required from a driver point of view.

Just a note when working on a PC internally do wear a Static Strap to avoid ESD "Electro Static Discharge" as static off your fingers can wreck a Motherboard, a Static Strap can be purchased at most PC Shops / Stores "about £5 - £7" a lot cheaper then buying a new Motherboard !

Do remember that the RAm goes only in one way into the slots as they are made with a notch with different number of pins on each side of it. Better dont press it hard or you may damage the pins of your ram module.

Well there are lot of questions involved like which ram u need there are probably 4 types of ram if i rem , sd , rd , ddr , ddr2 all of them are different . Firstly u need to make sure which ram u need then you and then have to find how much you need . if your motherboard supports dual channel then buy ram to use it properly . So read the specs of your motherboard and there will be exact documentation how to install it on the website .
