Unfotunatly i was building a budget pc and my new graphics card arrived (ATI HD4650 AGP x8) well... anyway i made the nooby mistake of not checking the pins on my PSU and lol it only had 20 so i burned out my mother board. or well i think thats what happend. for some reason the mother board woudnt read my VGA connecter for my moniter so no picture was apearing. i tried 2 differant graphics card and 2 differant moniters and nothing, i also tried my intergrated graphics. i dont know if this was due to my mother board having changed it to 24 pin settings or what but thats why im a NOOB.
Well anway i need your help Choosing a mother board. i need a mother board which will take: Intel Pentium D 850, 2.66Ghz. 4GB DDR2 533MHz. Have atleast one AGP x8 Slot. Handle around 600w of power. I,ve been searching for hours yet the closest ive come is a maximum of 2GB RAM only but i would like to dual-channel my ram then only put one in. im willing to spend about £150 i don't know if such mother board exist but i would reeally like to hope soo. |

This is not worth the money at all and the underlying cause is likely your poor PSU which you didn't name, not your motherboard. There is no reason to throw this sort of cash at a build that was pretty rad back in 2004, much less to want mostly useless luxuries like dual-channel RAM (back then 2GB was seen as extravagant).
If you can, return the GPU. If you can't, you can buy a i945 board but that's kind of ludicrous when £350 or so can get you a whole new PC.

Well im 14 so money is hard to come by and i have relised the money ive already wasted... the £95 pound for my damn GPU unfortunatly i can no longer return it nor will i get much for it. i was very depressed when i saw the PCI-E version of mine for only £45 pound. it seems the only thing that is differant is my memoory clock is higher by 300mhz. i suppose yes i am looking for luxaries but i guess im just a kid ^^. i suppose 2gb is fine i can easily pick up a mother board then. im not sure whether it is worth purchasing 2GB(2x1GB) or just using my current (2x2Gb) and only using one of them. i guess when i can get a job and save up ill try and make a build which is "Rad in 2011" but we can only hope, i apreciate the time youve taken to repply to an idiot such as me and thefore giving your reply "good post".

Ok, I know what it feels like to muck something up and not have the money to sort it, so I'll try and find you some kind of solution here.

You say you're happy to spend £150, for that you could get yourself a budget range mobo CPU with built in graphics and then a bit better PSU or a cheap graphics card. Try this: Gigabyte G31M-ES2L - £33.99 Intel Celeron Dual Core E1600 (2.4GHz) - £41.99 Sapphire ATi Radeon HD4350 512MB - £26.99 Corsair 450W ATX - £52.67 Total - £155.64 That mobo will take upto 4GB, so your existing RAM will be fine. I also presume you already have a case, HDD and optical? And everything you already have apart from those three you can sell on for whatever you can get for them. All the best, Ollie. For what it's worth, i'd do this:
PC P&C Silencer 420 Athlon II X2 GA-MA74GM-S2H (may require BIOS update) 4650 (a little more expensive but will pay off!!!) The jump is absolutely exponential for £180 or so. The graphics card isn't phenomenal but the 4350 is pretty bad and the 4650 at least is gaming-level stuff. Couldn't you sell your old card for the difference?
