| Hello there! Brand new to these forums, brand new to a lot of the hardware side of PC building, but here goes. I am interested in seriously upgrading my 4-year old computer. I am interested in the new Penryn QX9650 from Intel. Here's the thing: I don't know how to install brand new processors on to older computers. I'm not too sure what motherboard I will need to install along with it also. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I will need and how I go about doing it? Thanks! -Luke- Last edited by Dave Hybrid : 15th Jul 2008 at 01:03 PM. |

| Yes I intend to use it for gaming, as well as programs like Adobe Premiere that will be throwing around heavy files in large quantities. Can anyone advise how I install the processor and the motherboard, and which motherboard I will need? |

| Better than to explain is to take advantage of the wonderful features of YouTube. Every motherboard will differ as to how you install the processor but most of them are fairly idiot proof. Something [ame=" You say your computer is 4 years old, are you planning on upgrading RAM etc. What RAM is installed is it DDR or DDRII? |

| do you intend to run dual graphics cards? if so look into these 2 choices

here - this is a more up to date version of the motherboard below and has a revised northbridge chipset (can also run tri sli but i doubt you will need that) and here - this is an older version but will support dual graphics cards and both motherboards are good overclockers (if you want to oc) i picked the 2 evga motherboard as i feel they are the best sli mother boards and evga offer the best support but that just my opinion if you are wanting to run single graphics cards there are many motherboards to choose from and many chipsets, x38 seems to be the best at the moment however you will need further advice on the single gfx motherboards you may want to take into consideration the case you have and you will need to make sure it can accommodate an standard atx motherboard as well as the graphics card you intend on getting (if you plan on upgrading that as well). on top of that you will need to state what power supply you have to make sure it is sufficient for these new components. lastly upgrading your ram (depending on what you have now) will also add to the systems speed/effectiveness hope i helped ![]() My System: Cewy's wonder macine

I absolutely agree regarding EVGA's customer support. P35 is a better chipset for gaming, and oc'ing. Motherboard dependent as always. Just my opinion. ![]()
