There is a very tempting laptop offer I have just found. £350 for one of the Dell Vostro's. 1440 x 900 res screen, 2GB RAM and a C2D processor. I am very tempted. However the CPU is the T5270 and I can't find any info on it on Intel's webpage.

Each core clocks at 1.4GHZ which sounds slow to me! My current laptop has a 1.4GHZ processor (Celeron M so will I notice the difference)?

The laptop would mainly be used for school stuff so not heavy gaming. MS Office and a few other programs and maybe a couple of LIGHT games. I have my desktop for proper gaming.

So what do you say guys?

Cheers

Tom

People have bad experiences with every company. People could say the same about HP. I've got many Dell syetems and have never had any problems! *Touch wood*

That is true, but Dell have gone down hill significantly in the last few years ...... I would not recommend them to anyone. Customer Service is disgraceful and newer laptops are cheap plasticky efforts, like toys .... believe me, you dont want one .... pay a few pounds more and get a decent make.

I wouldn't say the Vostro is cheap and plasticy. My mate has got one and I really like it. Especially as it has a number pad on the side.

Well .... I hope he doesn't need to use their Customer Service anytime during his warranty.
They are based in India and are barely able to understand the problem, let alone provide any solutions.

I still say ... STAY AWAY, but it's your decision

The google result for "dell problems", returns 12,700,000 English pages ..... that should be enough to make anyone sit up and take notice

If this is all you're going to use it for then go for it.

Yep. Like I said, I have my desktop to do all the heavy stuff. But am I going to notice the difference going from a 1.4GHZ celeron to a 1.4GHZ C2D?
