Just noticed Intel have released some new processors.

Most interesting one has to be the E6420.

Its basically the same as the cheap and very overclock-able E6400 but it has 4MB cache instead of the older 2MB.

It is also the same price as the older E6400 at around £115

So that's dual core 2.13GHz with 4MB cache for £115 which is a bargain.

Its just tempted me to upgrade, i couldn't justify going for the E6600 4MB as it was a bit expensive but now the lower E6420 has 4MB cache its a bit of a no brain-er.

Going to overclock it too so should squeeze 2.5Ghz out of it so 5GHz in total.

:D

Bugger .

So its basically mine, but with double the cache, for the same money.

Sniff.

When did you buy yours mate?

I haven't bought yet, things are moving so fast in the IT world with processors I may wait for quad core and DX10 to come down in price before i do my next major upgrade.

I also need to re-install vista to get 64bit so that's a big turn off of doing it right now as just did the Vista thing a month or so back.

On the flip side I did have the pleasure of building a dual core PC today and it was bloody fast, XP installed in about 7 minutes.

That takes the mick when that happens, I feel your pain. However they are always making new ones all the time, now. They should work on one for every six months so people can get there upgrades without worring that an new one is going to come out.

Got mine about 3 months ago, didnt want to go for the E6600 as i'm primarily a gamer and oc'ing is easy with the components i've chosen. Also, the extra cache isn't of a massive benefit with games. The main reason for having the extreme is the fact its got an unlocked multiplier. Ooo, 3.6ghz on air cooling is not unheard of:)

I'm lucky in one respect in that a pal has a core2 extreme which he's selling to me pretty soon. Price dependent of course as i've had my E6400 at around 3.0ghz stably but boy did it run hot.

Hate vista, still havn't got my lappy sorted.

Yeah, i'd wait if i was you until at least ATI release their R600 (X2800 anyone?) card, then you should see a price drop across the board.

Cheers Blue

Can't complain, i've a cpu that does the job for me that was reasonably priced at the time. And the flip side of the coin is you can play the waiting game forever.

Just ordered one for a customers upgrade with the super fast 2GB RAM too.

I will have a play with it and post a review here.

What FREE benchmark programs are there so I can post some results?

Ideally ones that test the individual components and give them a individual score.

That way we can see if its any better against your E6400 mate.

If they test the whole PC its not going to score great, the PC it's going in has a crap graphics card.
