I wonder what's going to happen after the 8 cores, even after 16 cores.

How much processing power do we need? Anyone....?

It will go on and on mate, theirs no profit for Intel or AMD in yesterdays cpu, got to make it better, faster, smaller make more profit, before you know it we will have a firm like cybernet with

The need to find a way to make cache bigger or HDD alot faster processing power is nice but it really is becoming usless with the speeds of our HDD not improving and cache still as low as it was 3 years ago..I hate loading screen i play l4d alot and it takes about 8 secs to load and in those 8 secs i could kill myself i dunno it seems so pointless as i want it to be instant!!!

maybe in 5 years or we will have 1 processor specifically for a certain space of harddrive and will be automattically stored on a onboard cache

It would be nice if the OS was on a dedicated read only chip, with firmware upgrades for updates.
No bootup times .... just instant at power up. Having said that, can you imagine M$ ever managing to acieve anything like that.

20 years ago, the intel 286 processor was considered new, running at anything from 6 and 25 mhz and was made with 1500nm (1.5µm) architecture. now the intel core i7 runs between 2.66 and 3.33ghz and soon enough 8 &16 cores. and uses 45nm technology. so if technology keeps its current pace (which i doubt) in another 20 we will have between 32 and 64 cores, speeds up to 1179.26ghz being manufactured on 13.513nm technology.

Oh no. Assuming we're not all dead by then, we're going to be a lot lower than 13nm in 20 years. Roadmap is 16nm in 10 years.
