hi,

i have an older Clevo d410e laptop with 512 meg of ram in it so i was looking to upgrade.

the manufacturer claims that the laptop can only take modules the of the size up to 512, different scans such as the crucial memory finder confirm this however they say that the system can take up to 3 gb overall

so i was wanting to know if i got a 1gb piece and put it in would it work? or would my front room blow up?

Hi John.

Crucial's memory finder isn't the most accurate of software. It's using a generic format reading the chipset to decide on max ram amount, not the individual model. I'd be trusting the manufacturer in this case.

Even if you could install 3gb, with only 2 sodimm slots one of the chips will have to be a 2gb. These can set you back over 300.00 (type/speed dependent)

If you're running xp, 1gb will be more than fine. 1GB of ram is considered the sweet spot for XP.
