Toms Hardware for mobile CPUs is a bit pathetic. So if anybody has any idea on the power of the following processors, please let me know.

I paid £299.99 for this laptop

Intel Dual Core T2060 1Mb cache, 1.60GHz
1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, Vista Premium. Intel 950 graphics

The online shop then sent me this as what I originally ordered was out of stock.

Intel Dual Core T2050, 2Mb cache, 1.60GHz
1GB RAM, 120GB HDD, XP Media Center. Intel 950 graphics

The second laptop was £50 more, but I wasn't charged an extra penny, but which laptop is better? Also, my own personal laptop has a Core 2 Duo T5200 @ 1.60GHz. How decent is that in comparison to the desktop processor I used to use, an Athlon 64bit 3000+ ? And is it much worse than the T5500?

I'm a fair computer know it all but ever since Pentiums got names like Pentium D 530 etc, I've lost the ability to recognise good from bad.

PS. Anyone looking for a laptop, do not dismiss laptops with the Intel 945/950 GMA graphics processor, it is a fantastic little thing! It beats the GeForce Go 6150 hands down.

My opinion?

The second lappy, I wouldn't want to be running Vista with an integrated graphics solution stealing system ram leaving less than a gig to run that o.s. 1GB of ram is the sweet spot for XP, it's 2GB for Vista as its much more resource hungry.

Plus you gain a larger hdd. I upgraded my lappy to Vista Premium but went straight back to Media Centre.

The T2060 is a Core Duo 1.6ghz, 533mhz fsb, 1mb cache.
The T2050 is a Core Duo 1.6ghz, 533mhz fsb, 2mb cache.

That pretty much says it all fella, as you won't really be gaming on the lappy the extra 1mb of cache will come in handy for applications. Also, they both require the same amount of power (31w).

The T5200 is much the faster cpu in comparison to the Athlon. Also, you won't lose much over the T5500. Its a slower fsb to be sure (533mhz as opposed to 667mhz) but you won't really notice this in real world apps, the most noticeable difference will be the cpu's speed, 1.6ghz as opposed to 1.83ghz. Considering how superb the Core 2's architecture is that 230mhz difference will make a bit of difference.

Well some games will be played on the laptops. They can (aswell as my own laptop with the same graphics) can play Tomb Raider Anniversary on highish settings, Dawn of War on top settings and FIA GTR2 on high settings, all games get 25fps at least. All 3 at the full resolution of 1280x800. I will be upgrading both laptops to 2GB DDR2-533MHz anyway. Also, the ONLY reason I wanted to get Vista was for some Vista only games.

T series pentium dual cores are infact C2Ds only with 1MB instead of 2MB L2 cache. I have one t2080 @ 1.73ghz and when I cpuz it, it shows core2duo yonah core. its drawback is that its FSB is only 533 so with you get stuck to lower FSB rams when you could have got a 667mhz ones at almost same cost. I tried NFS carbon @ my laptop t2080 1,73 and 1 gig RAM. It sucked big time, I evn had graphics dediated to it to 224MB.

T series differ along the way. My personal T5200 has 2Mb cache, the T2050 has 2Mb cache too. The speed of RAM really isnt a huge issue, especially since my personal laptop is an upgrade from an Athlon 64 3000+ using DDR266 (1.5GB).

I can play NFS MW, on my laptop on low-med settings on my laptop (shared 128MB Intel GMA 950) at 1280x800. Then again having shared graphics doesn't hurt the RAM when there is 2GB of it lol.

With race games, it's never a big issue if you dont have top graphics, because you woosh so fast that you don't notice details that only get seen when you arent moving. Extra special effects like heat haze, depth of field (blurring of things far away) and such look nice, but make it a little harder to concentrate on the road.

I personally remove almost all the special effects like blur and vsync , fog, shade etc. because they are highly distracting and makes driving hard.
