my cousin gave me his pc for free which are a ASUS P4PE with a P4 1.7GHZ SKT478 , 768mb RAM , 6200 AGP. when i first got it , it was in piece so i decided to put it back together myself, took me 1 1/2hour and when it was finished and plugged in power a green light came up on the mobo. i tried turning it on the fan went crazy and span at full power sounded like a jet and there was no signal for the monitor. i guess when u start a PC u should hear beeps but i didn't.
Any Ideas ? it my first time in putting a whole pc together (i knew how to put parts in )
i tried all i could do but it doesn't work
been on it for 3 hours and still not working

hi m8 some p4 boards have an extra 4 pin socket (as well as the 20 pin ) near the cpu have you got this plugged in?
why he give it to you free?
if it was in pieces was the m/b and other components packaged correctly?
did you use an anti static wrist strap or ground yourself before working on it?

Normally, either the mobo is dead or the PSU is not connected properly.

Hmm ask to try your RAM in a friends PC to see if it works and vise versa , and Google your mobo maybe you'll get lucky and be able to download an online mobo manual if the rams fine after checking then could you possible take a picture of your mobo all connected and then all unconnected?

P.s did you ground your self or use a static strap or anything to discharge your static when you first built this computer and you might want to ask your friend the same thing when he took it apart.

i got it working he gave me 2 cpu and 2 fan, 1 fan and 1 cpu was faulty. only one of each was working, after building it this morning i got it working but i was fiiled with viruses so i had to reformat took 2 hours for driver and stuff to settle in. and one thing why is the fan so noisy? compared to my laptop now its like ten times the noise, it spans like a rocket trying to take off. The reason he had 2 cpu and fan cos he put 2 computer together only some parts work e.g a screwed up HDD and screwed up CPU/FAN and a screwed up CD DRIVE.He gave me all the parts he had.

Anyway guy thx for ur Help/Replies/Comment ! ^^
