Default More Temp concerns on Q9550

Hi Guys, i've just built a new PC and i just thought out of the blue that i'd check the temperature and seems like i'm running VERY hot.

I downloaded the Real Temp utility and this is what i get...

CORE TEMP
80 71 72 65

I'd post a screen shot but i really don't know how to.

But any suggestions as to what could be going wrong??

I'm running a EVGA 780 SLi motherboard and an EVGA 9800 GTX+ video card.
The CPU is a Intel Quad Q9550.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way those temps posted above are under normal usage stress.
In ideal, the temp hovers around the mid 60s.

I recommend you make a new thread, your more likely to get viewers.

Even so: What cooler do you have? are these temperatures idle temperatures?
Also a check, are these temps in Fahrenheit or Celsius?

No, they aren't ideal temp. They are under a bit of stress.
They are in CELSIUS.
Cooler, well i have a Coolmax power supply, and i have a NXNT Air Flow King case. The case has 2 intake fans in the front, one of the side of the case, one on the back of the case and 2 on top. One of the 2 on the top doesn't work. The Video Card has it's own fan and the CPU has the factory Heat Sink on it. I did put a bit of thermal paste before sticking the fan on it.

The main problem here is the Heat sink Fan you have, as it the stock Intel cooler it is rather poor (all stock coolers are) so my recommendation would be to get an after market cooler for it, I assume as you mentioned about putting some thermal paste on before applying the heat sink, you know how to remove it and replace with a different one? If you can, the system will be alot cooler if you get a CPU cooler like this one, and it isn't very expensive, so personally I think it's worth it.

Hey Thingie, thanks for the info. I'll have to look into the coolers. And no, i do not know how to take the paste off. If i buy a cooler, will i need to also buy more Thermal paste?? I don't have any more since i borrowed the tube from my brother when he was in town.

Your core 3 temp seems way low compared to the other three, is it possible that it's sensor is defective? Did you run the test sensors portion of that program? The other temperatures seem WAY high, my Q9450 says not to run it over 70. I also have a 790i Ultra. Let me check what intel says about the Q9550, but that seems too hot.

Yes, you would need some more thermal paste (assuming the cooler doesn't come with some, but it doesn't look like that one does) as for removing it, it's quite simple, what you need is a screwdriver, use it to twist the 4 screw like catches so they pop out, now the cooler should lift off, if it doesn't lift of easily, try rotating the cooler, then lifting it off. once you get the cooler off, you need to clean the paste off the CPU, the best way to do this, is with a lint free cloth, and some isopropanol, or similar (basicly any rubbing alchohol will do) <A HREF="[default_href]">
