Default mosfets?

Mosfets do get really HOT but they wont overheat

you can by small heatsinks for them that you can put on them to help cool them down

Default mosfets?

A Mosfet is basically just a voltage converter. On a computer it is used to generate the CPU voltage, Memory voltage etc.

Whenever they switching electricity they have to dump the excess heat somewhere. Normally they don't need heatsinks because they heat generated is just dissipated and not enough to cause damage.

However, you normally have problems when you overclock a PC and raise the voltages. This makes the current entering the mosfet go up so the mosfet has to dump more heat.

So the reason they overheat is they are handling more current then they were designed to. But adding a heatsink means there is more time for the heat to be dissipated and the temperature goes back down.

Theoretically, on more expensive or overclock designed boards the mosfet should be designed to handle more current without heatsinks so add on heatsinks wouldn't be needed so much. But it doesn't always work this way.

That is what I mean. Really they should just be powerful enough transistors to handle the currents of overclocking in the first place without the heatsinks.

But very few boards seem to be like this, and most as you say, have heatsinks.

You can get watercooling blocks for them as well if you so desire.
