i have a sony vaio PCV-RZ desktop computer. This computer's mother board does not come with a PCI-E slot which i need for my new video card. How do i go about finding a motherboard that is compatible with my desktop?

You'll need to look for ATX boards that support Socket 478, as well as the type of memory you have now and of course a PCI-E x16 slot.
Boards of that type are rare, though, as Pentium 4s have been obsolete for a while now. It is usually not a good idea to keep investing in old hardware.
