hey i sent back my graphics card because i thought it was faulty but they returned it saying it was fine, the symptoms were that the screen would freeze and when i booted nothing would show on the screen, could it be my motherboard, i noticed the southbridge got quite hot (around 80)

80 degrees is fairly hot but I'm not sure if this shouild crash the system. How are you determining the temperature of your southbridge chip? Are you using Nvidia's system monitor software? And what is the temperature reading on the CPU and northbridge chip?

Cheers:
Chris

the temp was from the bios, i have touched it and it was to hot to hold on for more than 2 seconds, i cant run a system monitor because the computer freezez after a minuit or so and the cpu is rather cool

Do you have any other pci cards in place that might be causing the s/bridge to overheat?
if not, could be its badly mounted chip/damaged m/b but id suggest not to fiddle with it and send it back

nothing else, also i went into the bios and waited the temp whent to 61 on the chipsets before the screen froze so i dont think heat is the problem

What power supply do you have?
Other than possible lack of power I would immediately blame the Ram.
Have you set the correct voltage in BIOS for the ram.OCZ crap,I have 4GB of there stuff here ready to be RMAd.That will be total of 12GB returned. It lasts about 2 months.

To be honest if s/bridge is faulty it will effect your gpu no matter what temp it is
try another gpu and see if you get same problem
or it might be a faulty hard drive or even possibly the ram
