Hey TCF.

I was looking at some motherboards and saw this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131190
then this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131196

What's the huge difference?

Yes, basically the same as this thread:

Thanks!

The top one is a premium version, and has more available RAID options. As a result, it costs more!

the top one is better with larger graphics cards like the 8800 series because the sata ports wont be covered by the large graphics card.

I would suggest that you go to the Asus website - there you can do a direct comparison between motherboards and find out exactly what the difference is. I have a P5K-E/wi-fi and I have to say its a great mobo - very overclockable, very stable.

The P5K-E seems like it has more features.
Which one should I get?
I'm getting a quad core and an Ultra.

regarding the size of the card and it fitting. Don't worry so much about it fitting on the motherboard. Worry more about it fitting in the case.

If you have the case measure from the rear to the start of the hdd cage. This is a loooong card.

In terms of the motherboard it pretty much depends on which features you need - buy the one that represents the best value for money for you - no point paying extra cash for features you dont need or wont use.

For example with me things like having a firewire port was important as well as having wifi. I compared the P5K-E against the P5K Deluxe and the main differences seemed to be things like additional LAN ports. I didnt need 2 LAN ports so took the board that had the things I needed, which was the 'E" model and saved myself some cash. So look at what you need and base your decision on that.

If it helps the board is running a overclocked Q6600. I had a problem with it though and had to RMA and now am waiting for a replacement but I would still consider it a good board, I think I was just unlucky.

In terms of the layout of the sata ports I gotta say they look identical to me. The additional heatspreaders on the premium board look like one of the main differences.

I cant really comment on the case, I"m no expert in these things but you may want to google the card and case together and see what comes up. I have an Antec P150 case for example and I know that people with big cards have had to modify the case the a little to fit them in. Hopefully if you google you might be able to find others' experience of your proposed case and card combination.
