Default motherboard gone?

hi guys had a call from a friend about his pc, going round to have a look tomorrow, but in the meantime the problem is it wont boot at all he just gets a black screen and and "no signal" message on the moniter, all the pc does is give out a series of beeps, i asked him to count them and he said he gave up at thirty!!!!!
his board is an ecs and if i remember rightly the bios is an american trends, and if so these series of beeps either mean his psu is crocked or he has bad ram slots.
can anyone confirm this? or point me in the right direction
many thx

Beeps cycle. It's the pattern that matters, not the absolute number. So many long, so many short, then a pause, then repeated. Maybe, on some motherboards anyway.

If you count the pattern when you get to hear it (or ring him back and ask him to sing it to you) and if possible - not essential - come up with the model of the motherboard, we can look it up.

That's a Phoenix Award BIOS

The only AwardBIOS beep code indicates that a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information. This beep code consists of a single long beep followed by two short beeps. Any other beeps are probably a RAM (Random Access Memory) problems.

http://www.phoenix.com/en/Customer+S...rror+Codes.htm

(you might try reseating everything)

Default motherboard gone?

just checked the ecs website and the board does have ami bios and then checked beep code on other site and it states
"One beep is good! Everything is ok, that is if you see things on the screen. If you don't see anything, check your monitor and video card first. Is everything connected? If they seem fine, your motherboard has some bad chips on it. First reset the DIMM's and reboot. If it does the same thing, one of the memory chips on the motherboard are bad, and you most likely need to get another motherboard since these chips are soldered on. "
as hes getting one beep all the time i guess the memory chips are bad

I'm not sure where you were reading but http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pro...nuID=1&LanID=0 has the download for the manual.

This is on page 27.
