Default Motherboard Not Wanting to Work with Nvidia Cards Anymore!

I recently had a problem with my CPU heatsink so I replaced it with Akasa blue evo. Once I had put it on and plugged everything back into the MB, nothing was displayed on the screen. I changed the PCI-E slot but still nothing. The card not working was the GeForce 8800 GT. Had it a year, works fine. Replaced it with the RX800 Raedon card from my old PC and it worked fine. Concluding that the 8800 GT was no longer with us I bought the 9800 GT today and connected it to the MB. The same problem occured.

So, MB doesnt work with either of the GeForce cards but works fine with the Raedon. Same problem in each PCI-E slot. Its also worth noting that a little red LED lights up when the MB recognises a card in the PCI-E slot. This used to work fine but doesn't light up at all with the Raedon card yet strangely will light up with the other two cards when they are only slightly in place.

I should also mention that the fans on both GeForce cards start up fine so its not a power issue. I swapped round CPU heatsinks to see if the new one was shorting but it wasn't. Im about to test the two GeForce cards on the MB from my old PC. Someone please help me!! The MB is Asus P5KC.

Many thanks,

Doug

The ATI card is PCI -E yeh. I havent tried to reset the BIOS, what affect would that have on the rest of my system? How do I go about resetting it?

Thanks for the response.

If you've never fiddled with the BIOS before it won't have any affect.

If you've OverClocked/Volted then you'll lose those settings.

Do you mean it wont affect the rest of my settings or it wont affect the problem?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem could be? Could it be that the MB no longer works with higher end PCI-E?

Fans starting up doesn't mean it's not a power issue. Fans don't take anything to run, video cards do. That would be my guess.

You think it may be a power issue? OK, I'll swap over my old power supply and check it out

Sorry, should have made that clear.

I meant it won't be a problem like you queried, everything will still run etc. It will just put the BIOS back to how it was when you bought the PC (Or motherboard if you built it yourself) - which was obviously working.

Thanks for that. Will try that tomorrow. Looked how to reset BIOS online last night and it mentioned about changing the jumper next to the battery cell to reset but I checked my board and couldn't see anything. Is there another way to reset?

unplug from the mains, take out the battery, give it a min, then stick the battery back in and power back on. there is usually a jumper, but doing this will probably be quicker than finding it.
