by process of elimination yes, it has to be the monitor. then again, logic doesnt seem to have any hold on this issue! are you using adaptors from dvi to vga at all? just wondering if that might have some effect...

and i admire your patience, i would have given up long ago!

2 weeks of painful trial and error and I am happy to say the problem has been resolved.

The problem lay with the cable from the monitor and the PC. Strangely, it stopped working with the GeForce cards, yet worked with the ATI. Still no red LED lighting up on the board to signify that the graphics card is in place but it's all running smooth now. At least I learned something in the process!!

well i can quite happily say that ive learnt something new as well! never seen anything quite like that!
sods law though, that it was probably the very last thing you tried! good to hear its all sorted and working fine.
