Hi have been trying to help out a mate whose usb`s connections have suddenly stopped working along with the keyboard and mouse at the back of the motherboard, the others at the front panel all seem to work ok,
Have checked in device manager and there are no yellow crosses, and on general tab it says it`s working ok,have tried to update driver, but no new driver`s
Have done a system restore also tried troubleshooter to no avail
also have re-installed xp sp2 but no results
Is the motherboard at fault? or is there another reason?
Should add that pc was ok untill friday and that it just froze whilst playing a game re-started and then had the problem

Remove all USB devices from their sockets and go to Device Mangler and uninstall all the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, then reboot.
Windows will detect them and reinstall them, if all is well with the mobo.

Having said that if the PS2 sockets are not working, it does sound like the mobo may be on its way out.

I understand your logic to a certain degree, but how will this help with the motherboard and mouse ports not working

I did say I thought the mobo may be on the way out, but if you can get the USB ports working, you could get away with a USB keyboard/mouse.

It wont cost anything to try it

I got exactly the same problem...
my front usb ports works fine...
but the back panel is fully not working... except the non powered usb devices like my external audio device and my palmtop just work if its plugged on his AC. When i try to plug my Razer Mouse, osx says that ive plugged a devide that isdrawning too much power, and windows just doesnt say anything but its not working... and at least, my usb keyboard and mouse dunt work too unless i plug them on the front usb panel...

could anybody help?

before this start to happne, i got a little heat on my power supply.. but its still working, and now its working fine...

plz help!

hum.. yah. i could...
but i dont since my board already did this job..
i want to make it work...

im sure that this problem is a hardware issue, but i dun know if can be anything about hardware config... or if it is a real hard problem like half burnd power supplu for example... the fact is that my font got heat... a little time but anyway... but i think the power supply got heat just makes damage to itself and cannot harm the motherboard.. so... maybe the powersupply is not giving full power to the board to power the usb device... could be it???? i dun know.. anybody could fix it without buying another power supply or another motherboard???. i got no money fr it right now lol....
