I am on a tight budget but, thought this board might be compatible with my processor I have now. can anyone tell me for sure, if it would be and would it be a worth while upgrade? I plan to upgrade the processor later on as funds allow also, I have 2gb. of Kingston memory right now which is the max it will handle. any other suggestions are welcomed also. Thank You! http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...483&CatId=2320

That is definatly a better mobo, not least because it's Asus instead of MSI

but yeah, it outspecs the MSI, and will be more helpful for future upgradibility, as it's newer and supports stuff such as SLI, which shows that it's compatibility is fairly "with it"

Default Motherboard Upgrade Question

Thanks for your help. I was concerned whether or not, my processor would work since my board says AM2 Only and the other board says AM2+? Thanks! This is my first try at changing motherboards but, I have done quite a few things on pcs. hopefully I can get the job done.

Not to difficult really, the new one will have more sockets, not less.
So you can literally take out the old one and plug everything into the new one.

One by one if you're wary.

I'm not sure why you would buy that board when better 780G/790G alternatives exist for less.

Hi Carbon, could you maybe link me to one of the boards you refer to? Thanks!

Well, I found more detailed specs so, I ordered the motherboard and the processor linked, in my previous post. New Egg seems to have some darn good prices! thanks for the tip Carbon!

i dont think you can use slower ram on a faster board. if its 667 you can use that on a 1066 board. there are not any good ones on newegg that use 667 so that motherboard carbon picked out plus this ram. The motherboard carbon picked out has onboard video. if you have a graphics card this motherboard is probably better. its compatible with the ram i posted a few lines up
