No, you can use slower ram on whatever board you want. On AMD it's on the CPU anyway.

I've installed the motherboard you suggested Carbon, along with the Phenom fx3 processor along with 3 gigs of the 667 memory I had and everything is working great on win xp home! I plan to get better ram when funds allow but for now, it's fine. Thanks for the great tip!
