I was playing COD WAW when I noticed my CPU was running at like 70%. NOTHING has made my CPU run that high on a consistant basis since I built this computer a year ago except a stress test. I commented on it in game and then my computer locked up. I had to cut the power to get it to reboot. When I rebooted, my BIOS hung up on the start. It couldn't read my floppy drive.

Now that was strange since I don't HAVE a floppy drive, so I went to the BIOS settings to see WTFU was up. My BIOS is now set at all factory defaults. What would cause this and what do I need to do. I am in a haul ass hurry because I am editing a video for a buddies Masters Degree program that has to be finished Wednesday. My computer will not boot past the BIOS screen.

You need to go back to the BIOS and change all the settings back to how they were.

I don't know what causes this to happen sometimes either but it used to happen very frequently with me, but it hasn't happened for a while recently.

I am not sure why your computer won't boot at all though, it should still boot on default settings.

The reason the floppy drive is showing up is because when everything is reset to default the floppy drive controller on the motherboard is re enabled, but it can't find a floppy drive attached to it, so it reports that it can't find the floppy drive.

Just disable the floppy controller and the message will go away.

You can get a similar message saying no hard disk found, when you have the the IDE Controller enabled but no IDE devices plugged in.

Thanks serverguy. The reseaon it won't boot windows on the default settings is because I have 8GB's of RAM. The "auto' RAM voltage is 1.4 or 1.5 volts and that's not enough for all 8gigs. I have to move them to 1.8 to get it to boot. I also have to set the CAS timings to manual, not auto. That strikes me as weird because the auto settings are 9-9-9-24 which is what I set them at in manual mode, but it won't work on auto. Also on the auto settings it defaults to 1 clock cycle and with 8GB's i have to go to 2T.

LOL I played hell getting this thing set up the first time so I hope I remember all the other things i had to do. I feel relieved though that it's "just one of those things". i was afraid I had to replaced the cmos battery or that somehow something fried. I may have more questions when i get to this, but i have to do my checkbook and pay my bills first or my wife will shoot me.

Thanks again.

Ok, I'm on said crashed computer again. LOL My computer clock says it Thursday, January 2, 2003 and the time is currently 12:29 AM, and just now i got a warning that MS can't check for updates. I'm assuming because the clock is wrong but...........

Yeah, fix your clock and sync it with Windows time in clock settings. Should solve your issue.

Thanks razer, I did and it did. LOL looking up and without reading the thread yet, it looks like your computer is going batshit as well with the CPU usage......... Gotta check that one out.

EDIT: I checked it out, and it wasn't your computer going crazy. My bad. Sorry.
