| Well I thought I would make this to let people know how my OCing is going. Please bear in mind, this is the first time I've ever OCed anything
__________________
![]() The stuff I have is as follows: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P36-DS3L RAM: OCZ PC2-9200 Reaper (2x1GB) CPU: Intel E2180 (stock 2Ghz) (What I am OCing) Ok, so what I'm doing is I'm using Orthos to hold my CPU at 100% for a while (atleast 10 mins, but usually whilst I go to other things, so is usually around 45 mins) and if it goes through fine, I raise the OC the the order I will put below. I am monitoring Temps with CPUID Hardware Monitor, and Core Temp 0.99.3. I am also doing the WPrime 32M benchmark so I have a rough I dea on performance increases. Spec: WPrime Time (seconds) Old computer (one in sig): 103.656 New @ Stock (2Ghz): 45.577 (even at stock is a huge performance increase) New @ 2.5 Ghz: 37.343 New @ 2.7 Ghz: 33.734 New @ 2.8 GHz: 32.406 I will be going up by 0.1 Ghz a time untill I decide it isn't stable or just is getting too hot for my liking. But currently, the highest temp I have had is 53C which is very reasonable. Any tips, or questions, please let me know And when I feel I have reached the highest I can, I will Post a screenshot of CPU-Z of it.My System: First OC

| Ok, So, I tried 2.9 GHz, however after about 15 mins of stress testing, it came up with an error, so it doesn't look like I will be able to go any higher, even though the Temps aren't any higher than 53C so I'm not sure what it is that isn't working, or do i need to increase the Core voltage? (it's on auto at the moment) but I still did a WPrime test for interest, and I got 31.344 seconds, so if there is something I could do to get it higher, can someone say please.

| Hmm, well it seems 2.9 GHz is ok now, I thought I would try another stress test with it, and it's been going for about 30 mins, and hasn't come up with an error, so i'm not sure what it was that did last time.

| 2.9 has died again

and I tried setting 2.88GHz last night, but it came up with an error after about 2 hours, so at the moment I'm trying a 2.87 stress test, which I think should be fine because the FSB is within the RAM speed (which I think was the problem) even though the motherboard was ment to speed up the RAM at the same time. Anyone have ideas of how to fix it?My System: First OC

| What voltage are you running through the CPU at the moment? CPUZ should be able to tell you if you're not sure. You want to get it off Auto quick as that is less than ideal. The old 65nm chips can take a huge slug of voltage and still survive fine. I get worried about long time longevity at 65 degrees, but it takes some to get there. The max voltage people seem to run through them on air is about 1.45 - 1.5. The processor should be easy to get to 3Ghz, especially with your RAM and I think you'd hit it quite easily with about 1.38 volts. With your RAM, you need to set it to a 1:1 ratio. That should solve those problems relating to RAM. When testing with Orthos or Prime then you really need to give it a good 12 hours for a real stressing. There are many people that think they have 100 percent stability at seeming low voltages but after an hour or so one core will crap out. Run it overnight and then you will know for certain. 3dMark06 also gives it a damn good stressing, and apparently the new Intel Burn Test is also very good for new quick results. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1341978

| well in order that you posted:

Voltage say's it's at 1.392 according to CPU-Z I'll try putting it manually to about 1.42 see if that works. RAM is allready set to 1:1 I have been running Orthos overnight for the clocks that I think are stable (so far all have failed after about 2 1/2 hours. I have also tried the Intel burn test. EDIT: I ahve been using CPUID Hardware monitor to monitor temps whilst gaming, and it said the CPU voltage has fluctualted between 1.36V and 1.39V, and the RAM has fluctuated between 2.06V and 3.26V ![]() ![]() ![]() Also, I don't own 3DMark06, so can't use thatMy System: First OC

| You need to turn off Speedstep in the BIOS to stop the random voltage fluctuations. This may also fix your stability problems as undervolting might kill it.

| I have turned it off, unless there is something else that does the same, but called something else, I'll try looking again.

| Try turning off "C1E" too. Same deal.

| Well you can't fiddle around with all the settings or use the specific tests I don't think. I've never had need for the full one, all I use it for is getting the bench and checking for stability in a demanding game.
