hello,
i have this problem and it won't go away. My cpu stays at around 50 degrees celcius and the fan speed is around 3000rpm. Then temperature just never get lower. But if i put it on stand by for some time the cpu will cool down and then when i start it up again the spu stays around 30 degrees celcius. i know my cpu is overheating because my friend's cpu is always around 25 degrees and his fan is around 2000rpm plus he has the exact same processor as me.i've tried speed fan, cpu-z, sissoft,ASUS probe, but they just wont help. i mainly want to put the cpu temperature lower and also adjust the fan speeds. please help me i need your help thanks in advance my computer was custom built by me and the parts are: motherboard:ASUS P5VDC-MX CPU:INTEL R pentium D 935 dual core fan: intel stock fan power supply:SHAW 750 W hard disk:80GB western digital 7200rpm graphics card:VIA Unichrome S3G pro IGP (built-in) |

it would probally be best to buy a better heatsink and some thermal paste. for fan controll you could get a fan speed controller that fits on the back of your computer which would be better than a software based one because i have found them to be very buggy.

Clean or replace your fan?

There aint any processors which runs at that temperature. Certainly not in december. Unless you have alot of heating fans in your room becose you find it cold. Even then it should be like 40degrees. Personally I find that a bit to hot.
So the only reason is that the heatsink might be incorrectly installed. Or theres to less thermal paste. Id advice you to disconnect the heatsink and see if theres enough thermal paste. If theres to less, put some more paste on it. If theres to many, then take it off. Then clean the heatsink. Becose there might be dust on it. Replace it on your MB. And you might check if its correctly fastened. So it shouldnt be moving when laying your hand on it when you try to slightly moving it. If that's all done boot up your pc. And tell us your temperatures. NOTE:Have you overclocked? |

no the cpu is not overclocked, but it is underclocked down from 3.2Ghz to 2.96Ghz. i underclocked it because if i run it at around 3.2Ghz it will overheat and restart so then i undrr clocked it. I also clean it pretty oftenly. the last time i cleaned my heatsink and fan is 2 days ago and how do u check if you have enough thermal paste or not?and how do u know if there is too much?

I myself have a P4 3.0GHz and the temperature is always 60Degrees Celcius and never gave my any problems. During Summer time, due to exsessive heat like once every week the PC would freeze and just would not start-up again (temp would sometimes be 80Degrees Celcius). So I suck all the air with a hoover (yes HOOVER) and then start again. This process is done every week. So then I just placed a 17" fan near the case and the PC just cooled a bit but I it still frooze every fourth night. Now it just keeps running cool (hot).
So I do not bother about it. If you want, you could either do like I did and just place a fan near the case or just change the CPU cooler and buy yourself a Zalman 9700NT. |
