Hello people!!!!

well im due to recieve my new Q6600 tommorow and thought i would post in advance for some help.

right i need help with the following things.

1)Memory timings - For some reason when i had my e6300 at 2.8Ghz i could only run this ram i have now at 6-6-6-18 or if i changed it to say 5-5-5-15 OR 5-5-5-18 and restarted ,i would get no display on the monitor and i had to reset the cmos to be able to boot again.
i plan to overclock to maybe 3.2-3.4Ghz if im lucky,my memory which is linked below can take up to 2.1v-2.2v

2)Voltage for cpu and memory - now iknow its diffrent for every system, some may need more voltage than others but what voltage would you reccomend i set my Q6600 and my ram to to get to 3Ghz stable for starters?

3)Is there anything else i should know?

tks people

Sounds like you know what your doing, just remember to stress test to confirm it's stable.

Just work up really slowly.

For the RAM set it to the correct voltage manually and set the timing as the manufacturer suggested.

Then set the RAM divider and get clocking! When it crashes, give it more voltage, and continue :)

If you find you need to raise the RAM speed to get a higher FSB then raise it say 20Mhz and see how it responds. If it starts crashing, then you could give it a notch more voltage, but make sure it has plenty of airflow around it. Fried RAM don't smell good. Trust me :)

You could also see how fast you can get the RAM before you start by just lowering the RAM divider. Then you know what you can aim for.

Exactly as serverguy said, I'm not an expert of OCing, however I have done so on the machine successfully, and most of the process is a learning experience, as long as you have read a guide or 2, and know the general idea, and aren't reckless, then you should be fine.
