N00b question about Dual Core

Yeah...really n00bish but do Dual Cores run at twice their recorded clock speeds? As in a 1.8 GHz Intel Core Duo would run at 3.6 GHz?

i thought that before, i think it means you got two 1.8's but that doesnt mean they run at 3.6 speed, it means the duels can split info between them easing work load, some of the guys here will clear this up as im being patchy, but i know my dual 2ghz does not mean i have 4ghz

Yes.

If you see two computers advertised and they are both 3.4GHz, one single core and the other dual core.

The single core will run at 3.4GHz, the dual will run at 6.8GHz.
