Only get a GTX if gaming at 1920x1200. If less the 8800GT will sort you out nicely. Also a lot cheaper, as in nearly half the price and can game at 1920x1200 just not as well as the GTX but you can always just turn a few detail settings down or turn off AA for those extra few fps.

I'll go nosey for a spec for you now.

I agree with Cewy on the Quad but you won't see the benefit in games just yet as not many are coded to use a quad.

If you want out and out cpu performance now then it has to be a dual, and it has to be the e6850.

Both it and the quad are priced closely, with the e6850 being about £20 more.

Yup. Not many (I know of 3, but there might be a few more) are yet.

But they will be, guaranteed.

It took around 2 years for games developers to make use of duals, it's only really taken off in a big way since conroe was released. Now cpu manufacturer's aren't waging the "mhz war" anymore but are now going for more efficient architecture and more cpu's on a single die those same developers don't really have a choice as they're wanting to expand the gaming experience. What do you think drives gpu improvements?

Alex maybe you could answer me a question with me being a Idiot.

Take Crysis for example
Its Minimum Requirements are 2.8Ghz and the Core 2 Duo will do that nicely with its 2x3.0Ghz But (heres me being a noob)Would the Quad run it as it is 4x 2.4Ghz?

Cheers,

Hi Banjo. Just because you don't know something doesn't make you an idiot, you just don't know.

The min specs are based upon a P4 2.8ghz. An E6300 (1.83ghz) has more gaming prowess than this cpu due to its better all round architecture; it's got, i believe, 4 less pipeline stages resident.

Game developers give the minimum specs based upon the absolute minimum needed to boot the game without it crashing, thereby artificially increasing the market of sales. It's immoral but legal as it doesn't take into account frame rates, aa, or detail settings.

The resolution of your monitor plays heavily in how well any games runs. The larger screen the monitor has the more pixels. The more pixels the harder the gpu (and less so, the cpu) has to work.
