I have a k9mmv motherboard, which has been giving me some grief.
Since january it started to lock up at the BIOS introduction screen (sometimes I got to the desktop and then locked up). After contacting the customer service they suggested to reseat the RAM (done -and if it's RAM, it'd be beeping, anyway, right?), change the battery (done), clean out the CMOS (done), and nothing helped. No burnt marks on the back or front (no short circuit). If I took it out, placed onto a non-conductive surface, connected to the power supply, and shorted the power swithch, it started up OK. Until the next freeze.
I put in another HDD, but after installing XP, it froze, and started all over. Sent it back, they said it worked fine, put back into the house, and...
burnt smell, and a spark between the floppy and the house's frame.
Floppy detached, prayer, power on -it works fine. No burning, no spark. New XP, happily installing Hellgate -crash, and problem again.
Plastic cards cut out, and placed between the holding studs and the board, the screws' tops, and the board (sandwiching the board, actually) -nothing. It worked OK before, so I don't think it's a faulty wire somewhere short-circuiting the board, but what the hell I know? Right now I'd just like to hack it up into small pieces.
Does anybody have any ideas what could go on? I asked for the test results from the company, if it's any help.
Please help...

Wow, nightmare.

Sounds like PSU if it's as unpredicatble and temperamental as that.

try switching for a spare one, or one you know works from a different PC.

If not just buy a new one, they're so cheap.

Thank you for the answer. So you think the MO is malfunctioning? The company swears it does not.
I'd be real happy to change it (and get a PCI express card), but alas, it turns out even Starbucks is out of my reach right now :)

MO?
I'm thinking the Power Supply Unit is what's dodgy here, I thought you sent back the Motherboard, or you sent back the PSU as well?

My bad. English is not the first language here, and I still can't get used to the excessive use of abbreviations :)
(And I do research, so there are a LOT...)

So power supply? I'll try to get another one for the time being. (The old one does not have enough types of connectors that are needed for the MO...)

Oh sorry, did'nt realise, I'll try to ease up on abbreviations or put them in brackets so that you know for future what they mean

So, yeah if the power supply unit (PSU) doesn't have enough connecters for the motherboard, that could quite easily be why it won't boot, it's simply not getting the power.
