guys i need to replace my motherboard !(was shown a blown capacitor on current 1 ..)
Computer works now so im in no hurry but it freezes a lot now ..
Anyways i want to replace my motherboard with an up to date 1 but dont want to have to change everything due to buying wrong type motherboard and do not know what to look for in motherboards .

Id like a MB that i can upgrade my video card later if i want as the 1 i have now is AGP and its hard in my area to get 1 without ordering online ,

let me give you my computer info before i confuse myself lol
its an Emachines T 3065
AMD ATHLON XP 3000+
2.17GHz with 1.5 G RAM
Controller Type hard drive EIDE
Ram type : DDR SDRAM

id like to be able to upgrade eventually the processor and ram and video card at later date .. now i know if i get a MB that uses PC express or whatever u call it style video cards then id have to change that immediately ..its the ram and processor that worries me ..i dont want to have to upgrade both of them immediately ...

please help me decide on a good cost efficient motherboard ..(the more expensive is ok but please explain why that would be best ...

Too old to throw money at unless you really really need the thing going exactly as it was before. You can get a new motherboard, CPU, and 2GB RAM for under $150.

Well im not sure exactly how to do this ... but if i were to buy all that, would i be able to just plug my HD into this new MB and have everything still saved onto it .Like Windows XP and all my other programs?Or would i have to save this all to disk?
And is CPU a processor?lol .. i dunno terms ...just ive heard duo core is better now and want to upgrade my comp but cant with this MB ...

Windows XP is going to need to be reactivated if you change the motherboard either way, you'll have to call MS. Otherwise, programs should still work fine, you will have to remove the old drivers and install new ones.

What is your budget here?

Well you said i could get this for under $150. what im getting at is if comp tech says im going to need a new MB with this comp then im assuming it will cost me over $150 to have them do it and id prefer to not have the same issue i had now .Which was i needed a video card and couldnt find 1 in area because nobody sells AGP anymore lol .. so if that means i upgrade MB ,thats fine with me ..

Heres what i do with my comp ...
a lil photoshop but just for fun ...nothing elaborate... i do play a lot of starcraft and want to be sure to have enough of a system to play starcraft 2 when it comes out lol ...and do a LOT of surfing net just playing stuff ... But i like a fast working comp. hence 5 meg dsl lol ....
so what do you suggest ... for someone who does what i do ?

With computer components you can be cheap but you often get much better parts which is why I asked your budget. For example, 2GB of RAM is $30, but you can get 4GB of ram for $49 - a very cheap motherboard like this is OK, but this one is $20 more and much better.

I would suggest the following:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA770-UD3 ($75) (R -$10)
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz ($60) (FS)
RAM: A-DATA 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 ($48) (FS)

This will run $183 and is the best value for the money.

If you had to be really cheap, though:
Motherboard: ASRock N68-S AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 7025 ($45)
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz ($60) (FS)
RAM: WINTEC AMPX 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 ($30) (FS)

This will run a little under $150 but isn't nearly as good price/performance.

Should blow away your old cpu. Forgot you don't have PCI-E graphics though, so if you don't plan on buying a new graphics card at the same time you'll need one with integrated graphics like this. Should hold you over until you want to buy one.

You shouldn't have to buy a new copy of XP, just explain what happened on the phone and they'll give you a new activation.
