Firstly this is my first ever thread I have done so if I miss any information you need please just let me know, Cheers.
I have a Gigabyte Technology 7vkmp 1.x motherboard and I want to upgrade my processor. I am currently running a 1.3 gigahertz AMD Duron 128 Kilobyte Primary and 64 Cache and running a bus clock 100megahertz. (so you can see why I want to upgarde!). I have downloaded the manual from Gigabyte and under the processor upgrade it just states AMD compatable 1.4 or higher. As this is my first processor upgrade, I am looking for suggestions on a new AMD processor? Do MoBo have limits on processors like RAM (my current ram is 768, but will go to the max 1G with new processor)? I was thinking of buying a AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core4400 2.3GHZ OR AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 4800 2.5GHZ, If you dont rate these can you please suggest an alternative that will be compatable with my MoBo? I just want it to speed up my comp and play some new'ish games like Total War 2, Rainbow SIx Vegas. Cheers for any help and suggestions Pete |

I dont suppose any one can suggest a good mother board with a AGP slot? Only reason I ask is that I didnt realise I was going to have to change the board for a processor and I have just bought a new 7600Gs GeForce card that has a AGP fitting. Thanks in advance for any advice. |

hi m8
sorry for not getting back earlier i personally would chuck that card and go for a pci-express board and do a total upgrade, but if you still want an amd dual core cpu you could try the DFI LAN PARTY NF3 - ULTRA-D it has an agp x8 slot but good luck trying to get one prob ebay your best bet good luck |

Cheers Redden. You have been a great help and I am taking your advice... Going to buy a new comp instead of messing about with old tech.
cheers Pete. |
