Hi everyone,

I am really stumped on my pc, I have just upgraded to a AMD 64 X 2 Dual Core 6400+ with 2 x 1 Gig of Geil Ultra DDR2 PC6400 (4-4-4-12) with a Asus EAH3850 512 Graphics card... its all running on a Asus M2N8-VMX motherboard... my problem is before I upgraded the Processor ram and Motherboard my graphics was running fine, but I installed all the parts yesterday and now it seems everything is running slower and games that once worked smoothly now jerk about like im on a P400... I contacted the shop I brought the stuff from and all they say is send it back, they are miles away so I would fault check before I do this, especiall7y as the wife threw away the boxes from the new gear

Anyway I did that CPU (CPUMark 2) test on another thread on this forum and the results was a final score of 6693.2..

also when running games it says both processers are running at 75 - 100%

as you can probably tell im a novice 0n the building front of pc's but all help ideas etc would be greatly appreciated...

Is it a new mobo?

Did you install the new chipset drivers on your new mobo CD?

Install them all and do your graphics driver too, should sort it.

its not a new Mobo its my dads old one, but it was working when he had it.. all drivers are installed if I go to my device manager everything there is showing as installed... when I swapped over the mobo Processor and ram I formatted so it was all on a clean system... I installed the mobo drivers 1st then the Graphics card.. but same problems..

It's definetely driver related.

I have just uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled them, still the same problem, so I contacted AMD to see what they suggest, and they basically said the only problem it could be is my bios, the only thing is I have only ever heard bad stories of people updating there bios, plus my pc doesnt have a floppy drive in it...

I very much doubt it is the BIOS lol.

What mobo drivers did you install?

Is the CPU running at the correct clock speed?

well to be honest I am stumped now... I was trying to reinstall the drivers again earlier and it told me to reboot, I done that and afterwards it wouldnt boot, it came up with windows on the black screen, but it the blue bar was just stationary.. I left it like that for 45 minutes... and then reset it... After that it would boot in safe mode but then after I rebooted from there it done the same again... It felt to me like the hard drive was gone so I formatted my other sata and installed windows... it did that fine until it came to installing the drivers again, as soon as it said reboot I did and then it froze on the windows screen again... I am now scared to turn the thing on incase im doing some damage to it somehow...

Have you changed anythinh in the bios?

Reset your bios to it's default, by taking the big CMOS battery out for 30 secs and then putting it back in and booting up.

Enter bios, set boot from CD, then put your XP disk in, and exit bios. Now press any key to continue when it's loaded, follow the on screen prompts to install Windows. Let me know if you have any problems, being specific on where it crashese, any error messages ect.

Thanks for all the help and advice, unfortunately I poured Coke over my laptop so couldnt get online... I have ordered a new motherboard for my machine.. (ASUS M2R32-MVP) anyway the problem seemed to be that the ram was set up in the bios wrong... since changing it 4-4-4-12 it actually boots up.. also had to change the voltage aswell... but at least it boots now.. now the only question I really have, is there a program that I can run that would tell me if I was running at decent performance for my machine??

Well, you can find all information about your system with Everest Home Edition.

I also suggest you take a look at Speedfan.
