Hi guys,

I have jut bought yesterday new components for my computer and i have problems on powering up the new system. Here is what i have:
MB: Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus
CPU: Core 2 Duo E6550
RAM:2x1GB DDR2 800MHz Geil Ultra
Video: Gforce 7800GTX

I put all these in my 1 year old chase: Chieftec Midtower ATX UNI 400W

After i plugged everything i have tried to start my computer and i had a big surprise: The computer powers up but the light on my monitor is still Orange. I also didn't hear any beep in my speaker. What could this be?

I have also remarked that when i try to shut down the computer by pressing on the power switch more than 5 seconds it does not stop.

On my video card i have only DVI plugs but i use an adaptor so i can still use my old monitor (which functions very good with my older system)

What can i do? Can someone give me a peace of advice?

Best regards, and thanks for your time

Double check that you have connected everything properly.
Check that the Ram is receiving the correct voltage and is set to run at the correct speed, likewise the CPU.
Make sure GPU is in the primary PCI-E slot.
Which components are new and which are old?
Possibly your PSU is lacking the right connections.

Except the chassis and the monitor everything is new. The problem is that i cannot even enter Bios. The board is jst powering up. the coolers start, but the led on my monitor is still orange (not gree).

You say only the chassis and monitor.
Are you including the PSU as part of the chassis.
If the PSU is old or maybe even if it is not it may lack the required power connections for your setup.
Check the manual for you motherboard and make sure all the correct power cables are connected

I have double checked that i think 10s time now.
I did this tests 10 minutes ago:
1. Unplugged the video card (just with the ram on board)and power on (no Beep);

2. Unplugged the memory (video card on board)and power on (No beep)

Can this be an old bios version that does not support my CPU?

Good idea,It is possible.
You could look up the history of BIOS updates for your board and see if any of them were needed to address issues with your particular CPU.

O.k I have seen that they put support for FSB 1333MHz CPUs in the version 0501 of bios.
How can i see which version of bios does this board have (considering the fact that i can't see anything on my screen, since the computer does not star properly). I have searched the box which came with the board but nothing there about bios version.

Best regards.

You cant.
Well you can but updating the BIOS can ruin your PC if you make a mistake or the process is interrupted so doing it "blind" would be pretty dangerous(but not impossible).
If it was me I would not try it.
The reason there is no info on BIOS version in the box is that motherboards can ship with different BIOS versions.
I dont really know what else to tell you.
The only thing I can think of is as I have said a problem with the PSU but you have ruled that out.

I have checked the Assus site again and it seem that the E6550 CPU is supported by my mother board only from version 0805 whic was released 27.08.2007. Maybe i will manage to borrow one CPU from somewhere an i will upgrade the bios

Well i lost my whole day with this mainboard and i am very pissed. I have tried 2 more older CPUs and no improvement (same result). I guess the mainboard is broken :|
