Default New Mobo, New OS?

I was looking around at new mobos and when you install one, do you always have to install a new Hdd and OS?

I was maybe hoping of keeping my old hdd and it installing with the mobo. Vista seems to have too many compatibility issues and i wouldnt want to install xp if i currenly own it now.

Is it possible to keep the old OS and Hdd?

Cheers, Max.

yes it is but you will have to activate windows again, it probably will not allow it over the internet but if you ring the microsoft activation line (the number is given when you click activate by phone) and explain to the technician they will give you a new activation code

Only if it tells you to activate windows again.
