My brother has an ECS Elitegroup 945P-A V3.0 motherboard in his computer. He had an OLD Pentium 4 processor and wanted to upgrade, so I looked up the specs on the motherboard to see what was compatible and ended up ordering an Intel E7600 Core2 Duo processor (3.06 GHz, 1066 MHz, FSB, 3MB L2 Cache, LGA 775 socket, 45nm core).
Now, it's plastered all over the motherboard box AND user guide that it supports Intel Core2 Extreme / Core2 Duo processors, but when we installed it and went to start up the computer, the green hard drive light came on flashing along with a solid yellow light next to it and the light on the monitor just started flashing. The was as far as it ever got. We then reinstalled the old processor and it started up just fine. I would imagine this means one of two things: either the processor is bad or the processor is not compatible with the motherboard. Any thoughts? The processor was purchased from Newegg. Here's a link to the motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-034-_-Product And the processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...5059&Tpk=e7600 Thanks for your help! |

Have you tried flashing the BIOS?
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Dow...nuID=6&LanID=0 In general 945 motherboards dont support 45nm Wolfdales but it's worth a shot.

Carbon, the BIOS flash worked. It was also recommended by ECS when I spoke with them. Just thought you'd want to know. I guess this Wolfdale is supported by this 945 board. Everything has been running fine. I'm very happy about this because I did a bunch of reading to make sure they were compatible before recommending this processor to my brother and when it didn't work I was not happy considering Newegg won't take back processors or even let you swap for a different one.
