Yeah, under SPD, depending if you have the option in the drop down box shows how many slots you have.

That's saying it's a GX200...

See this page for the Dell's own page on memory for the GX200.

However, I also didn't think about Linux, it rearly would be an idea as you are only wanting to browse the web, and it will save you the money for the RAM, as if the Dell's own RAM for that machine is anything to go by, they are a ridiculous price.

Forgot to mention that the dropdown under SPD is empty. Or rather says it's an empty slot.

When I did open it and look at the RAM there is one slot that is definitely a stick of memory and the second one looks totally different. Like it is twice as tall. I can't see it very well but it looks more like some sort of circuit board then it does RAM. I might take the power supply off later and post a picture.

Not sure on the Linux. RTFM isn't something I enjoy!

Had someone on another forum tell me that that the odd looking stick is just a blank to fill in the slot, if anyone is interested...

Now that I have had a closer look inside I know it has PC 700-50 RDRAM. Will I need to have additional PC 700 or would PC 800 work also?

It's hard to give a specific answer, because it is so old.

At a guess, I would say yes, giving that most RAM can run slower but not (much) faster.

OK so I have a couple of 128MB PC800 sticks. Put them in and start the computer. Sounds like it is starting up fine but doesn't do anything. Other then the normal sound of an idle PC.

Any suggestions?
