Hi guys run into a bit of a prob here.

I have an Asus P5B Premium Vista Edition Motherboard and just today after a fresh install when i was putting on my drivers i happened to check in device manager and i seen under other devices that there is no driver associated with my chipset

I reinstalled Vista and all my drivers plus the chipset drivers but same outcome again.

I did have the heatsinks off and applied new thermal paste to SB & NB but i always use an anti static map and wrist strap when working with hardware and i was very careful with the bare chip.

I have the latest drivers installed and everything is up to date.

With this P5B board i have 2x 12v slots but it says to only use 1x 4pin and i always did, but today i decided to put in another 4 pin plug ,would this have caused this?

if it isnt any better after going back to using just 1x 4pin what could have caused this problem

My computer seems to be running fine bar this but device manager tells a different story

Regards

Ok got it fixed , turned out to be as simple as not resetting the motherboard before reinstalling, that's my best guess. I clred the cmos and reset the bios and all was well. Think it wasnt picking up something on the south bridge.

I also just found out about the 8pin option on my board while trying to figure this other chipset problem out. By adding another 4pin 12v connector from psu to the motherboard for the cpu, it has stabled my system better than it has ever been! I was running my Q6600 off one single 4pin 12v while the other always had the black cap covering it.

Now i have the two running and it has dropped my overall temps especially my cpu under load ,amazing!

I have an Abit AX78 motherboard which also requires an 8 pin 12V CPU connector but my PSU only has a 4 pin connector. Alot of people say you don't need the 8 pin but it is said to be required for quad core processors like mine. I have started to think about this as when im playing games, after a bit my FPS drops from 70 to 30 and the gameplay slows right down. Alot of people say it could be heating but checked my CPU and GPU temps and they are at the standard temp when this happens. I was wondering whether the 4 pin power connector isn't supplying enough juice to my 2.2Ghz AMD Quad Core processor so after a bit it starts to fall in performance...

This guys describes what i also had and i never thought to use the other 12v which was covered over.

While i was gaming i also noticed a drop in my system, and this was meant to be a quad, plus few guys have said to me that they couldnt believe i had a Q6600 running because it was so slow. 2x 4pin 12v has now set my Q6600 free and it hit the ground running hehe.

Perfect outcome
