yea, you only want a small amount of paste, if you've only got a single core CPU, instead of placing a line on the CPU, put a small (about pea sized) in the centre of the CPU, the rest should be the same.

well basicly, clean off my old paste on HSF, squirt a pea sized amount on the centre of the CPU, and put the HSF on top ? or do i spread the thermal paste around the CPU, then put HSF on top ?

Do not spread it. Put a bit in the middle, put heatsink on top. Doing so will spread the paste to fill in those little air pockets I mentioned earlier.

yea, don't spread it, the heatsink will do that much more effectively whilst you are putting it on.
