Hi Guys, i've posted this in numerous forum websites which are suppose to help! I've had no luck, so i'll try here.
I was in the process of building my own computer. I was given a list of everything i needed by a friend. Although i left the motherboard until months later, as i forgot about it all,... I was told to purchase this: ASrock ALive SATA2 GLAN Sock AM2 mainboard I was unable to find one of these, as i was told they were discontinued! So he told me to get something else,.... Asrock ALiveNF7G-HD720p R5.0 Socket AM2 GeForce 7050 5.1 channel audio onboard VGA mATX Motherboard Which also got discontinued. I then asked for another an was told: GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-5300C4 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB5300DC) Couldn't get that, so tried: Abit NFM2S-V nvidia 6100 Socket AM2 onboard VGA 5.1 channel audio mATX Motherboard Which again, was not available... So if anybody could help me on what motherboar to purchase, as i haven't really got much clue, i'd be most appreciative! Thanks! |

AM2's are a bit old now, the only place you are likely to find a mobo is ebay these days.

Well, considering you were told to buy RAM instead of a motherboard in your third option, I don't know about the suggestions of your friend.
AM2+ is backwards compatible with AM2, so you should be able to buy any motherboard based on the 780 or 790 chipset. Look into those, see which are well reviewed.

I agree with Carbon, the guy sounds a bit odd (no offense intended) if he's telling you to buy some RAM instead of a motherboard..
If you don't already have the processor then go get an Intel processor an an LGA775 board. They're knocking around everywhere these days. |

Yeah I was just about to post regarding the third "motherboard" when I noticed Carbon's comment..
Maybe he's having a bit of fun with this - sending you off buying completely odd stuff, I mean I'm not questioning the guy if he's a good mate or anything.. but could he have only sent you after an AM2 so that it wouldn't work? Post all your specs of every component you have so far so we can double check that any of it will actually work

It would be easier if you listed what, if anything, you have already got for the build.

A HD 2600 Pro? Unless this isn't being used for gaming, you need to save up some more money or this build isn't worth its cost. Drop one of the monitors, get proper DDR2-800 RAM and a 7750+ BE as well as a 4830 and you're on your way. Look at the GA-MA78-DS3HP for the motherboard.
