Hi, my Dad has a PC in his office that isn't working very well. It keeps freezing and is generally in need of some maintanence.

I think he just needs some more RAM to speed applications up. Its a home built PC and the MoBo is pretty out dated. Couldnt find any serial numbers on the board other than Intel PCI Set FW 82371EB F844YA93 SL 37M.

Can anyone advise me as to what RAM this board uses. Is it worth getting the additional RAM or should I just throw together a new system? How much would a new Mobo, CPU and RAM cost me?

The ONLY thing this machine needs to do it account programs and other Office applications therefore a high end machine is not needed - something cheap

Thanks in advance

It will probably be alot easier, and probably cheaper in the long run, to just get a new system, and if it only needs to go simple things you could probably knock one together for less that £200

This is true.

However, OP: can you run something like Everest or CPU-Z that will tell you the current type and model of at least the RAM if not the motherboard? There's no way to tell from that description.

In answer to your other question, about £80 for CPU, mobo and RAM

Thanks for the replys guys. Sorry I didnt update you all yesterday. When I got into my Dads office yesterday, the monitor wouldnt work on the machine. Not sure if its a faulty GPU or what. Had to return to my flat so wasnt able to help my Dad any more. He's gonna try to insert a new card himself.

Probably just gonna have to get a new system. Thanks for the help and advise!
