i am currently using an intel celeron 2.00Ghz socket 478 processor.

it is still got a stock heatsink, and hasnt been removed or played about with, so its just as it came out the factory

i am currently overclocking to 2.30Ghz my first overclock, the thing is, how far do you guys think i could get safely on stock heat sink and cooler, i just want to squeeze some more juice out of this , when at 2.00Ghz when ideling, the temp went down to around 39 - 40 C maybe more, when overclocked it goes all the way back down to pre-overclocking temps 39-40 C, what would be the max recommend tempurature i should go up to, the max i could ever get the temp up to on stock speed was 47 C but thats because the CPU fan is always at full speed.

and can someone tell me what is a CPU:Dram ratio, i'm not sure what this is any answears:

the options it gives me are something like this:

1.00:1.00
1.00:1.33
1.00:1.66

any info would be great thanks.

please could anyone tell me what a safe overclock would be, and what should be the max temp be, for the age of this processor, i still want to have this for a little bit longer with it.

if there is any more info i should tell you then just ask

Leave the DRAM ratio alone if you have decent RAM.

Max temp? Uh, you're on a Celeron, you're good for about 65-70C max load. So you've got a while to go. The nice thing about budget CPUs is they have high multipliers, letting you OC well, but tend to be not very tolerant of voltage and sometimes FSB changes.

can anyone recommend what i should set it too in Ghz, i can work out what the multiplyer will be afterwards, just need to know what people think, as you may know, how much more heat it might check out, i am going to try and keep it from going over 55 C.

currently set at 20 * 115 = 2300Mhz - 2.30Ghz

i also have one DDR 256mb PC2100 of RAM made by samsung and a second DDR 512mb PC3200 of RAM made by Nanya

ok im using speed fan to show my tempuratures.

there 3 sets of temps, i know what two are, i know what the first two are, but what is the 3rd, its extremly high:

temp 1: 40C - Motherboard temp
temp 2: 42C - CPU temp
temp 3: 91C - unknown

it shows my HDD temp as well 39C

and also shows a secpnd temp 1 at 44C

whats the high temp 3 though?

Probably some rubbish temp given by Speedfan or whatever you're using. As long as your CPU temp is OK don't worry.

Up it by 10mhz each time, reboot, make sure it gets into Windows. Once you think you have it stable, run something demanding like a game or Prime95 to make sure. If it doesn't freeze, congrats.

I'm worried, though, about your RAM. PC2100 runs at 266mhz, so it's only rated to 133mhz on the northbridge. Which means you're already pressing it pretty far, especially if your DRAM ratio is high. It's unlikely you'll get much farther - I would invest in at least a 1GB stick of good PC3200, then you're good up to 400mhz.

As for heat, that won't go up substantially unless you start increasing the voltage. But like I said, any "holes" you run into are likely to be your RAM hitting its limits, not your CPU.

no i have left my DRAM ratio alone as i dont understand exactly what its for and how far it could go, lookin to invest in a 1GB stick to pair up with my 512mb module already in there, anyone got one for sale?

thanks the advice on OCing, how far do you think the 256mb module go do you think it go? 2.50Ghz so a 25% increase because i forgot that one of my sticks of RAM was slow, oops lol, it all still seems to be running fine.

i havent found anywhere on my BIOS to show that i can change voltages, i want to get the most out of my RAM, i know that most BIOS automaticully go to a safe setting for RAM

does anyone have any idea, what i could do with an old PSU fan, i pulled it out of there, its got no end as it was soldered in and its got only 2 cables.

anyone who could help and tell me if it is possible to use as a fan to blow in would be good.

Never open up a PSU! It's likely to kill you - seriously, the capacitors in there will fry your brains out.

You're already pushing it FSB wise, I doubt you'll be able to push it much further but you can try if you want. You might give changing that DRAM ratio to 1:1 a shot so you're not pushing the RAM any harder than your CPU.

As for the fan, unlikely unless you've got some electrical engineering background to get it working as some sort of molex deal. I imagine it was connected via something proprietary.
