My system specs are;

  • Zotac 8800GT 18000 MHz SLI PCI-Express
  • Avalon LE2262 22" LCD 16:10

Personally I wouldn't OC a Q using the stock Intel HSF but as I don't know the airflow resident within your build you can certainly have a go, especially if you've got the 'G0' stepping Q6600 rather than the B3.

The earlier revison of the cpu, the B3, runs hotter than G0. Do you know which you have?

The most bandwidth-friendly way of oc'ing your cpu (quads like a lot of bandwidth) is to drop the multiplier on the cpu and raise the FSB, but be prepared to throw some extra voltage through your cpu. I've never seen a Q with a decent oc without having to raise the volts.

I gather this is a home build? If so you'll have oc'ing options in your motherboard's bios.

Have a read of this first to gain more of an understanding.

Yeah, home build and its a G0 stepping.

I do have options to change the MHz in BIOS, it's default value is 266, and to be safe I changed it to 277, saved and rebooted, just before the Windows logo saying it logo's theres an '_' underscore top left that keep blinking and wont load, just stays, I change it back to 266 and it loads.

Anybody help?

A 10mhz jump shouldn't be a big deal at all. Try taking it up 5mhz and see if it persists, if it does just go 1mhz or something and see if it works.

Could be RAM (unlikely), could be you increasing the wrong thing, could be some odd motherboard thing you have to disable.
